Laura recently graduate from DePaul Univeristy in Chicago with her Post-Masters Certificate under Stefan Höskuldsson
Laura is currently offering in-person and virtual lessons out of her studio in Chicago, IL.
She will also be moving back to Spain in Fall of 2024 and will continue teaching and pursuing orchestral auditions.

BIOGRAPHY

In the last decade flutist Laura Colmenares has established a playing career across the USA, Europe and Asia. Laura toured China in the spring of 2016 as the principal flutist of the University of Washington Wind Ensemble of which she was a member from 2014 to 2016. She also has played with the University of Washington Symphony Orchestra, University of Washington Symphonic Band, Ball State New Music Ensemble, Ball State University Symphony Orchestra, Boston University Symphony Orchestra, and Boston University Wind Ensemble. In 2017, Laura premiered Chin Ting Chan’s piece Falling Stars at the College Band Directors National Association Convention in Kansas, Missouri with the Ball State University Wind Ensemble.
Since 2008, Laura has spent her summers performing across the USA and Europe. Many of these performances took part during her time at the Zodiac Music Festival (2019), Flauti Al Castello (2017 and 2019), Sewanee Summer Music Festival (2017), Bay View Music Festival (2015), and Aria International Summer Academy (2013 and 2014). Laura recently premiered Lila Wildy’s piece La Fil Juane in Nice, France in July of 2019.
Laura began her flute studies at the age of 4 with Heidi Ehle. This fall, she will begin studying at DePaul University under the tutelage of Stefan Höskuldsson in pursuit of her Post-Masters Certificate. Laura recently graduated from Boston University with her Masters of Music in Flute Performance. Laura has also studied under, Linda Toote, Beverly Brossman, Laura Werner, Donna Shin, Zart Dombourian-Eby, Dr. Mihoko Watanabe, and Antonio Nuez.
Laura has performed in many competitions in the Seattle and Boston area. Awards include earning the 1st and 2nd place David Tankonogui Chamber Music Award at the Chamber music northwest competition, being a finalist for the 2009 concerto competition at the Seattle Young Artist Music Festival, and attaining honourable mention at the Frank and Lu Horsfall Competition. Laura also competed in the Washington Music Education Association East shore Solo and Ensemble Contest Performance and won first alternate in 2010, 2011, and 2012. These performances qualified her for the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association and Washington Music Educator Association state and solo Ensemble Contest Performances where she was a finalist all three years. Most recently Laura won first alternate in the woodwind division for the University of Washington Concerto Competition.
